George William Urquhart
1951-2019
It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of George W. Urquhart at the home of Hugh and Karen Parks, North Head, Grand Manan, NB, on Sunday January 6, 2019. He had been ill for a short time.
George was born on September 16, 1951 at North Head, Grand Manan, the youngest child of George and Mary (Johnson) Urquhart, of Woodward’s Cove. George spent his younger years as a fisherman, working from Grand Manan, and later from White Head Island, where he called home for many years.
George loved being on the water, as was evidenced by his 28 years with Costal Transport Ltd. The past year he worked aboard the Grand Manan V, and said it was the best summer of his life. He loved working with the crew and his captain.
George is survived by sons; Kevin (Jamie), of White Head Island, George (Silva) of Woodward’s Cove, Christopher (Ashley) of Quispamsis, eight grandchildren, and step daughter Corrie Morrissey of MA.; brothers Francis (Jenny) of Calgary AB, Ray (Margaret) of North Head, Lawrence (Bertha) of North Head; sisters Alice Banks, Beaver Harbor, Karen Parks (Hugh) of North Head, and Judith Urquhart (Eugene), Saint John. Several nieces, nephews, cousins as well as numerous friends.
He was predeceased by parents, George and Mary and wife Polly (Priscilla) in 2012.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 8,2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, at the North Head Baptist Church, where the funeral service will also take place on Wednesday, January 9th 2019 at 2:00 PM with Pastor David Philips officiating.
Donations in George’s memory can be made to Charlotte County Cancer Society or to the Charity of donor’s choice.
