Mollie Irene Shelton
1929-2021
Mollie Irene (Green) Shelton, 92, of Grand Manan, NB, passed away peacefully on Friday, January, 22, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Beloved wife of the late John (Dick) Robert Shelton (2007), predeceased by her parents, Sheldon (1965) and Sadie (Small) (1937) Green, and her siblings Hazel Zwicker (2016), Marilyn Frost (1986); Brother Earling Green (1997); half-brother Jack Green (1973), her granddaughter Jerri-Anne Flagg (1979) and her grandson Bobby Manning (2009).
Born in North Head and raised in Ingalls Head, Mollie graduated from Saint John Vocational School (1947). She owned her own shop as a talented seamstress. Then she met and married Dick and became a Navy wife (1950). In her younger years, she curled and was an active member of Eastern Star. She loved history, nature and travel. In the 80s and 90s, she ran the Fundy Folly Bed and Breakfast and hosted guests from around the world.
Mollie’s amazing spirit lives on in her three daughters, Judi Shelton of North Head, Joanne Flagg (late Jerry) of North Head, and Lori Shelton (Michael Krewski) of Ottawa, ON; and in her four sons, John Robert (Bob) Shelton (Jessie Laing) of Oyster Pond, NS, David Shelton (Renate Roske-Shelton) of Back Bay, NB, Tom Shelton (Jana) of Oak Bay, NB, Gary Shelton of Castalia; and first grandson Kevin Shelton (Michelle Moreau) of Quispamsis, NB.
With love, she gifted her grandchildren, Patrick, Jodi, Paul, Aishia, Justin, Vanessa, Christopher, Tyson, Jada, Desiree, Ren and her 22 great grandchildren and 2 great-great children many knitted clothes and quilted blankets. She will be remembered as a prolific knitter, a warm and generous storyteller, and an amazing baker and cook.
She is survived by her two sisters, Jeanne Ingalls (late Lawrence) of Ingalls Head, Dorothy Perron (late Joe) of Hammond’s Plains, NS; three half-sisters, Natalie Forsyth, of Chester, NS, Bonnie Cook (Carman) of Big Cove, NB, Trudy Morse (Neil) of Grand Harbour, and many nieces and nephews.
There will an interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date. A donation in Mollie’s memory can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Grand Manan Nursing Home Foundation.
