Howard Napier Ingalls

1925-2021

Howard Napier Ingalls

Mr. Howard Napier Ingalls, of Grand Harbour, Grand Manan Island, NB, passed away peacefully, June 2, 2021, he was 95.

Howard, Uncle HaHa or HNI, as many folks know him, started working in his teen years to help out with the family until he joined the RCAF in 1943, until his discharge in 1946.

He was very curious and ambitious. While working on Gannet Rock he started taking correspondence courses to pursue a career. Some of his life's journeys were as follow:

1948-1962 Lighthouse Keeper; Ross’ Island, Machias Seal Island, Swallowtail, as well as Gannet Rock.

1962-1975 he lived and worked in the United States as a Master Electrician for several companies spanning from Maine to Miami, Florida.

1975-1976 he returned home to be employed by Coleson Cove Generating Station as a lead electrician.

1976-1989 he was employed by the government of the NWT, as maintenance mechanic, electrical inspector and diesel generating plant superintendent.

1989-1990 he finished his "up North" experience as a maintenance man and driver for the Eskimo health referral in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Even at 65 years of age, Howard did not stop learning or seeking that next course of adventure; which was enrolling in NBCC St. Andrews, where he obtained his Master Mariners certificate.

To say that Howard had a rewarding and accomplished life would be an understatement; he did what he loved and loved what he did. He was the pilot of his course be it on the land, air or sea. If Howard could say anything at all it would be; "to pilot your course, pursue your passion and dreams, achieve your goals and never stop learning".

Howard is survived by one daughter, Verna Ingalls, of Grand Harbour; four grandchildren; Naomi Brooks, Leslie Laffoley, Laurie Laffoley, Mark Locke; nine great grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren; one sister Kathleen Janes of Saint John; one brother Owen Ingalls Jr., of Seal Cove. He will be missed by family, friends and many nieces and nephews.

Howard is predeceased by his parents Owen Sr. and Roberta (Wooster) Ingalls, his wife Beulah (Brown) Ingalls on June 12, 2019; daughter Marilyn Locke on October 26, 2015; sisters Daisy Annis, Jean Kissner, brothers Henry Ingalls, Jack Ingalls and infant Walter Ingalls.

Cremation will take place, and there will be a graveside service at a later date.
