Harry Scott Stanley
Survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Marjorie (Zwicker); daughters Dorrine Squire (Derek) of Greenwood, NS; Shelley Cook (Wayne) of Grand Manan, NB; sons Michael (Diana) of Fredericton, NB, and Jon (Leslie) of Grand Manan, NB. Eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Bruce and Helen (Scott) Stanley, his sister Alda (Ingersoll), and his brother Clifford. Harry served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1940 to 1946, and saw action in the North Atlantic, Bay of Biscay, and the Murmansk run, a proud member of the Haida’s original crew; self employed in Bruce Stanley & Sons’ General Store from 1945 until his death and as insurance broker until 2002. He was a little league coach, an avid athlete in baseball, tennis, badminton, and curling. He was very active in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 44, Village Council, and the Grand Manan Rotary Club. Harry served the people of Grand Manan Island all of his adult life. He was devoted to his immediate and extended family, and mentor to many others. He touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him.
Harry’s family will receive friends and relatives at the North Head Wesleyan Church on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the Church on Monday March 3, 2008 at 1:00 pm with Rev Mel Norton officiating and Rev. Ron Ford Assisting. Interment will follow at the North Head Community Cemetery. Donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
