Sheldon R. Bass

Mr. Sheldon R. Bass of North Head Grand Manan Island passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital Wednesday February 22, 2012 with his wife Mary by his side.  He was born in 1937 at North Head the son of the late Ernest and Jennie (Beal) Bass.  Working in the herring fishery for most of his working life he worked aboard of several purse seiners, weir fished, and also was one of the few left that still mend twine.  With his kind gentle way Sheldon would be seen daily taking his dog for a drive and stopping by the coffee shop for a visit with his friends which was one of his most favorite things to do.  He was a devoted husband and family man to his wife’s children that came along later into his life and he gave them all of his love and support.  He is survived by his wife Mrs. Mary Bass of North Head. His step children; Krista Roode and family of Castalia, Arthur (Chantel) Middleton and family of North Head, Robert (Anne) Middleton and family of St. George, Joseph (Heidi) Middleton and family of St. George, Mary Middleton and family of Saint John, Herbert Middleton of Grand Manan.  Three sisters; Alma Naves, and Alice Cook of North Head, Hazel Titus of Manitoba.  One brother Lester Bass of North Head.  His sister in-laws Bessie Bass,  Roberta Bass, and Ruth Bass all of North Head.  Also his many nieces, nephews, and special dear cherished friends that he made along life’s road.  He will be missed but always remembered close in their hearts.

Visiting for Sheldon’s friends will take place at Ells Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  The funeral service will take place on Monday February 27, 2012 at the North Head Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ed Shaw officiating.  There will be a reception at the church following the service and all are welcome invited to stay for a time of fellowship.  Sheldon’s family has requested that donations may be made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, Grand Manan Hospital Foundation, or Charlotte County Cancer Society.  Funeral arrangements are in the care of ELLS FUNERAL HOME INC. 1199 Route #776, Grand Manan, N.B.
